06.01.2008. Images uploaded. Brown Hairstreak or Thecla betulae is a fast moving butterfly, and not common in Denmark.

The Pyrgus amoricanus or Oberthur´s Grizzled Skipper is extremely rare in Denmark, where the species meets its northernmost distribution. The good news is, that the butterfly is discovered in a couple of new habitats, roughly 20 kilometers from the hitherto only spot of occurrence in Denmark and Scandinavia, and this is a habitat I visit frequently.

On these meadows the occurrence of the amoricanus is closely linked to the growth of Helianthemum nummularium on wich the eggs are layed and caterpillar feeds. If you find nummularium you find ( Or are likely to find!) amoricanus.

On this and this photo you will see amoricanus on the Helianthemum nummularium.

04.1.2007. Images uploaded. Photos of butterflies from the past summer has been scanned for presentation on the internet.
The Camberwell Beauty or Nymphalis antiopa, has appearared in Denmark in large numbers during the past summer. It is not regarded a common species in Denmark.
The Admiral or Vanessa atalanta is as a rule, a common butterfly in Denmark, even though the species is unable to hibernate in our moist climate.
Large Skipper or Ochlodes venata appears almost everywhere in Denmark and is a common butterfly in the Danish meadows.
Boloria aquilonaris or Cranberry fritillary gets my attention every year, due to its beauty and relative rarity. The butterfly can be found in isolated Moors which are getting scarce every part of Denmark, due to drainage and agriculture.
This is also the case with the Cranberry Blue or Vacciniina optilete.
Clossiana selene or Small pearl-bordered Fritillary appears locally common, but is declining.
Declining is also the Satyrium w-album or White Letter Hairstreak. The food-plant of the catarpillar, Elm, is wanishing from Denmark due to Dutch elm disease in the trees, and that has led to a heavy decline in the populations of the White Letter Hairstreak.
Lycaena virgaureae or Scarce copper is declining due to the way many meadows are maintained, or to be more precise, due to lack of maintenance. The habitats for the foodplant, nessesary for the caterpillar, are wanishing from our nature at a alarming pace.
Plebejus idas or Idas Blue can be found in some meadows and moors.

The Cranberry Blue or V. optilete can be found in isolated Moors wich are getting scarce throughout Denmark, due to drainage and agriculture.
